What is gratitude?:
To explain further what is an attitude of gratitude you need to know what an appreciation is. It is your belief that something valuable or important to you, which has no monetary benefit at all. Most important thing is, gratitude is freely given to you by nature, the only thing is you should use it on time to time. Gratitude is essentially the awareness of the unearned advancement of value in one’s knowledge. Gratitude is an unconscious feeling that comes out from within. It is not simply an emotional reaction, but it is a choice we want to make. We can choose to be grateful or to be ungrateful. We can take our blessings for granted. Hence, as a choice, gratitude is an attitude.
Gratitude is an emotion or a feeling that is attended by more positive and less negative sensations. Gratitude also ensures greater involvement between people, both friends, and strangers.
In fact, we attached our goals in the future to our happiness. This means there is always a gap between where we are now & where we intend to be. Most people say that I will be happy when I will cross that gap. These goals keep extending away from you. We never hit that goal. We keep chasing this gap that continues sly move ahead of us. This creates a feeling of postponing our happiness indefinitely.
Forget about this gap, instead, look at the reverse gap. That means look at how far you come. Where were you in the past & where you are now. Who were you a year ago? What have you learned in the past year? Pay attention to this reverse gap. That is gratitude. Appreciation about yesterday, last week. Last year is gratitude. How much your past has benefited you to be at present situation is gratitude.

Gratitude & Spirituality:
Spirituality encourages us to cultivate gratitude. It says “Always show you thankful.” Saints thanked God forever for the positive response of others toward the message they shared with them. Everlasting happiness comes not only from merely saying ‘thank you’ occasionally but from having an inclination towards gratitude. That, in turn, protects us from feelings of authorization, envy, and hate, which would cause unfriendliness of the people and steal the joy in our life.
God himself has set an example in showing appreciation even to simple humans. God is not wrong to forget your work and the love you showed for his name. Our Creator considers it improper to show a lack of gratitude. Be Always happy. Give thanks for everything you get in your life. Practice giving and people will give it back to you. They will pour in return into your laps. Someone has said that one who offers thanks to someone, praises God. Whatever things are true, lovable, well-spoken-of, ethical, and credible, continue thinking about these things. Such thinking will lead us to our need to have an inclination towards thoughtfulness, which is necessary for a grateful spirit. When we start approaching life from the outlook of seeing what is working, without opposing our current challenges, we can grow more positive thinking and thankfulness in our lives. In addition to looking at what is working in our lives, positive and realistic thoughts are reminders of how blessed we really are.
Gratitude & the world around us:
Gratitude makes us conscious about another way of being in the world. This way leads us to develop the heart and helps to create a life of meaning and purpose. The old barriers no longer limit us and the old fears no longer prevent us. Gratitude opens us to wisdom, a sense of kindness, and connection to the wider world.
The human spirit is always reaching for the improvement of its own well-being. The practice of gratitude provides healing and builds up our basic nature. The journey that lies before us holds boundless possibilities filled with blessings, leanings, and protections waiting for our findings.
Hurdles to gratitude:
Great enemies for having peace in our life are Extreme greed, a strong desire for success, envy, anger, and pride.
Modern life nowadays has many distractions. These distractions can erect barriers to the practice of gratitude. These barriers can be overcome by building, committing, inducing the awareness of gratitude into our daily lives.
Envy and jealousy are qualities that are fed by comparison. The more we compare ourselves to others, or desire what they have, the less satisfied we become with what we currently have. Envy creates an understanding of lack. As a result, envy also feeds greed. Envy and greed are supported by the arrogance of pride. In many spiritual traditions, it is told that pride is the worst sin of all as it contains the seed of all other sins. This unhealthy form of pride contains a very strong need for self-importance that holds oneself above all, that is the law, any person, any faith. Pride, in turn, feeds the state of selfishness, the self-absorption of unsolved ambition and suppressed the anger that breeds a sense of entitlement.
Practice gratitude daily. Make it habitual. When people around the world, in more & more numbers, choose to practice, accommodate, and represent gratitude, the total effect can help to build the kind of world we all hope for and desire. This will be definitely helpful for ourselves and also for future generations. May this journey towards our own development, gives us unexpected gifts, insights, and an ever-expanding awareness. This will also let us renew our connections to the very best in ourselves, in others, and in life itself.
